One of the things you should check before buying a used laptop is the battery back up time. Charge it to the fullest and wait right there to check how many hours it used before the charge runs out. A 1 hour backup time for a used laptop is not bad.

 Also check the charging port by plugging the charger in and removing it back several times to see if it making contacts each time before buying it. Don’t forget it’s a used Laptop. 

Also check the charger if it has not been repaired by looking for any kind of soldering trace on it.

You might not be lucky all the time if you want to buy a used and cheap laptop but 80% of the time, if you consider these above factors, you should get a good buy.
